What’s a Group Recruitment Session?

Many of our Nandocas kicked-off their Nando’s journey at one of our Group Recruitment Sessions. These sessions are a way for applicants to get a taste of what it’s like to be part of the team. After all, the job’s not gonna be boring, so why should the interview? Of course, at these sessions, you’ll learn more about Nando’s and meet our restaurant leaders, but there’ll also be music, games, prizes, and a whole lot of good vibes.

Do I need hospitality experience?

Are you applying for a Nandoca (that’s what we call our team member’s) role? don’t worry! We hire for attitude and train for skill. So, if you’ve got great vibes and a team-first mindset, we want to hear from you.
Are you applying for a management role? Having previous hospitality experience can be an advantage, but we are mainly looking for amazing leadership skills and someone who loves coaching and inspiring others.
Do you have previous experience leading teams? We’d love to see what you can bring to the table!

What qualifications do I need?

In Australia, to work at a Nando’s restaurant, you need a Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) certificate - or, if you are under 18, willing to obtain one once you turn 18. They’re easy to obtain and we can point you in the right direction.

How old do I have to be?

Age check! 🎉 You need to be at least 16 years old to work at Nando’s. This is our minimum age to make sure that we provide a safe and fun environment for you once you are ready to enter your first job.

How long will my application take?

You can also use the STAR interview technique to help you structure your answers by focusing on the Situation, Task, Action and Result. 
For example:
Situation: A customer was unhappy with their meal during a busy dinner rush. 
 
Task: I needed to resolve the issue quickly while keeping service flowing. 
 
Action: I listened to the customer, offered a replacement meal and checked in with the kitchen. 
 
Result: The customer left happy and complimented the team on how well we handled it.
This kind of response shows problem-solving, customer focus, and teamwork—all key at Nando’s. 
Most importantly, bring your true self. We want to see the real you.

What do I wear for the interview?

Just wear something that makes you feel comfortable and helps you put your best foot forward.
If your interview is in restaurant, we recommend wearing long pants and enclosed non-slip shoes as you may be taken into the kitchen area for a restaurant tour.

I’m still in school and this would be my first job. Will I be considered?

Of course! Nando’s is a great first job. And our philosophy is ‘school first’, so we’ll work around your studies. At Nando’s, it’s more than just a job — we’ll help you grow, learn, and maybe even turn it into a full-blown career. Don’t worry if you have not worked in a workplace before - think about examples of when you have done a project at school, with a sport team, music group or arts program. We would love to hear this examples that show your skills!

I’m on a visa. Can I still apply?

Yes. You can absolutely apply. All you need is current working rights for Australia or New Zealand. 
For Nandocas (team members), student visas are fine. You can work part-time (8 to 20 hours a week). But for Restaurant Managers or Assistant Managers, You’ll need a visa that allows full-time work (38 hours a week in Australia, or 40 hours a week in New Zealand).
No sponsorships are available at this stage.

Working at Nando’s

What hours will I be required to work?

Our restaurants are open Monday through Sunday, including public holidays, and our rosters run from 9am to 11pm (up to 1am in drive-thru). Your shifts could fall anywhere within these windows. But don’t fret, rosters are organised and shared in advance, so you’ll have plenty of time to plan your life away from the grill.
If you work in our Restaurant Support Office, we generally work Monday to Friday, 9-5 – with an element of flexible working. But since we are always supporting our restaurants and suppliers, this may require working outside of these hours.

Do you offer part-time, full-time, or flexible shifts?

For our Nandocas (that’s what we call our team members), we offer all of the above. We want you to have predictability with your shifts, so whether you're studying, parenting, or juggling life, we’ll do our best to work with you and ensure you have access to all the good stuff like paid holiday, sickness, or parental leave.
Our management roles and Restaurant Support office roles are usually employed on full time basis.

What do I wear at work?

Once you’re on the team, we’ve got you covered. Literally. As a restaurant worker, you’ll receive a Nando’s shirt, bandana, and apron. You’ll just need to wear your own blue jeans and non-slip shoes. If you’re working at our Restaurant Support Office however, there’s no dress code. Just wear what makes you feel best.

Will I be required to handle food?

At Nando’s, all team members are required to handle food – including chicken, bacon, and other tasty ingredients. So yep, you'll need to be comfortable working with all types of food.

Will I receive meals on shift?

Yes. With our Feed the Crew program, you’ll get up to $30 worth of Nando’s on shift every day. Plus, you’ll score 30% off for your family and friends.

How and when do I get paid?

We pay weekly, straight into your bank account. No cash, no cheques.

What’s it like working in a restaurant?

Hot, fast, and full of flavour. But also super fun. And there are lots of opportunities to get involved! Did you know that we have a Changing Lives Squad? 
Our Changing Lives Squad leads initiatives like No Chuckin’ Our Chicken, Goodbye Malaria Foundation and donations to Australian foodbank. We also have regional safety teams that you can get involved in to make a difference!
If you start as a Nandoca and want to grow your career, our Bright Futures Program is a great option! This is an 8 weeks journey that supports you in stepping up from a Buddy Trainer to a Shift Leader or Assistant Patrao.

Do you have an office in Australia or New Zealand?

Both. In New Zealand, we have a small office at Sylvia Park, Auckland. In Australia, we’ve a brand-new Restaurant Support Office based in Richmond, Melbourne. Purpose-built for our restaurant support team, it overlooks the Yarra River and sits atop our Richmond Restaurant.

At our Restaurant Support Office, you’ll find teams across Marketing, People and Culture, Finance, Commercial, Development and Construction, IT, Grocery, and Operations – all working behind the scenes to bring the Nando’s magic to life. And while we’ve got a variety of roles across the business, we don’t always have openings in every team. Do you offer flexible working arrangements at your Restaurant Support Office?

At Nando’s, we have a hybrid working style – one that allows us to work from a variety of different environments – be it at our allocated desks, from home, within the restaurant, outside, or from any free space that exists in the office on any particular day.

What is Nando’s parental leave policy?

We’re all about family here at Nando’s, so if you’re welcoming a little one, as a primary carer you’ll get 8 weeks of paid parental leave. For full details, we also have a parental leave policy available!

Can I grow my career at Nando’s?

100%. We’re all about growing our own. If you’ve got the drive, we’ve got the path. With a number of internal development programs, you can move in all kinds of exciting directions.

What training do you offer?

Loads. From day one training, to leadership development, and beyond, we’ve got you.
As a new Nandoca (that’s what we call our team members), you will work alongside a Buddy Trainer who will show you the ropes on each station to make sure that you have all the support you need to be successful. We also use a system called Workday for e-learning on how to manage your brilliant first shifts, safety, customer care and many more!
As a new manager at Nando’s, you will go through a 6 week onboarding training, working 5 weeks in a training restaurant before moving into your home restaurant to finish off training before you are ready to fly and lead the team. 
Once you are in role, we will continue training at team Indaba’s (think of it as a team conferences) and through structured training programs.

Do you have an internal development program?

Our internal development program is called Bright Futures. This is an 8 week program designed to help you grow your career with Nando’s. If you’re a Buddy Trainer looking to step up into a Shift Leader role, or a Shift Leader wanting to become an Assistant Manager, this is the right program for you.

How do internal promotions work?

We love seeing our Nandocas step up and grow with us. We have many successful managers in the business that started as a team member – such as <a href="https://www.nandos.com.au/careers/dylans-story">Dylan</a>. That’s why we run our internal development program, Bright Futures, to support our Nandocas who are keen to grow. 
When junior roles become available at our Restaurant Support Office, we also advertise these internally via our Workday system – we love hiring Nandocas that bring other skills, such as <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cfY6-9IgK6k">Nishad</a>, who started working in Restaurant and now manages our Digital Platforms, or <a href="https://www.youtube.com/shorts/APym_2Edq3w">Amie</a>, who now works in our Design team.
